About Me

Hello and welcome to my website!

My name is Borbala, but please, call me Borie.

I live on Brixton hill, South West London and have worked as a Nanny over the past decade, caring for babies and young children (and their parents too) with love, passion and understanding.

Since training with the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) as a doula, antenatal practitioner and pregnancy yoga teacher, my focus shifted towards supporting new families in the antenatal period, during labour and birth, all the way through the fourth trimester after childbirth. I am able to offer the much-needed continuity of care that birthing people and brand new families get very little of from the NHS maternity services.

As an NCT trained doula with a holistic attitude toward perinatal care, I am an advocate of personalised labour support and informed decision making where the emphasis is on the birthing person's needs and preferences taking into consideration her physical, mental, emotional and social health.

Alongside, the usual antenatal preparation sessions that doulas normally offer, I am also happy to teach you calming yoga postures, active birth principles and hypnobirthing techniques that can aid your labour, birth and even your parenting journey. As a birth and postnatal doula, I am there for both parents (as and when applicable), but not to take anyone's place, rather complement it.

During my postnatal doula work, I tailor my support on each visit to what you need then and there. It is a very flexible service to make sure each member of the family is well taken care of. Whether you need a listening ear, a healthy and delicious home-cooked meal, a few hours of sleep, company, reassurance or massage, I will be providing just that to make the early weeks as smooth a transition as possible.

I offer a free consultation over WhatsApp video, to see if we would be a good match for each other.

Closing the Bones ceremony post-birth:

This is a traditional body relaxing and pampering ceremony that originates in South America, but variations of it are practised throughout the world.

It uses several scarves to gently rock and massage the whole body into blissful relaxation. Then the body is wrapped up, cocooned/swaddled with particular attention to the hips.

It may release all sorts of emotions and help the person experiencing it to draw the birthing experience to a close and move forward with their parenting journey. It is a physical and emotional journey with the help of scarves, aromatherapy, light touch and poetry.

The ideal time for this ceremony is somewhere in the first 4weeks post-birth, depending on the birth experience.

Optimal Baby Positioning

Your baby's position is directly linked to easier and more straightforward labour, optimal positioning can prevent obstructed labour, the need for instrument-assisted birth and the use of epidurals.  I trained with Molly O'Brien, founder of Optimal Birth, in 2019 and have been using these specific maternal positioning techniques with success since then.

You can learn these techniques too and apply them when needed as preventative measures in late pregnancy or even during labour as low-risk interventions with the help of your birthing team.

During the workshop and the follow-up session, I will be teaching you about

  • the bony and soft structures of the pelvis, how to baby travels through the pelvis

  • positions that create more space for the baby as they journey through,

  • using a scarf as a labour tool

  • specific maternal positioning techniques that can prevent suboptimal baby position before labour or resolve them during labour

  • birth ball and breathing exercises to aid mobility in pregnancy

During this work, I meet you twice for an hour somewhere in your 2nd or 3rd trimester.

£150/2 sessions

Testimonials

“Hey Borie, we have been meaning to thank you from the deepest bottom of our hearts for being such an important part of our birth story. I was hoping that one day I'd wake up with the right words to describe it all, to thank you, to explain just how proud, grateful and full of joy I am at it all, and yet all the words still feel like they fall short and can't do it justice. I read this the other day though (on @smallthingsgrowhomebirth on IG, where else? :) ) and immediately thought of you:

"Birth is hard. It is vulnerable. It brings us to the very limits of ourselves. Even with childbirth education and research and watching endless birth videos, most people in labour  (and particularly first-time labourers) cannot believe this is what labour actually is. Having someone steady in the waves is a balm that helps them withstand the storm. It is grounding to have someone reminding them that Yes, this is what it is. Yes, it's hard, but that doesn't mean it's wrong. Yes, what is happening is normal. Yes, you are doing things exactly right."

You were that reassurance for me, that balm, that steadying voice that I can still hear so clearly - "You are doing so well" - those hands squeezing my hips with every surge, mopping my brow, bringing me water. And also your joy, in the whole process, where I knew that my joy was your joy too, that you trusted me and my body, that we were in this together, that there was little you'd rather be doing than helping give us such a beautiful start to parenthood. Not a day goes by where I don't think about Tammo's birth and feel proud and joyful: thank you from the bottom of our hearts. With love and so much admiration.”
